I _______________________, and ___________________the mother and father of ______________________ agree to participate in the Young Energy program, and if my son or daughter can identify ways to save the family money through energy conservation, we agree to share half of the money that our family saves with my son/daughter.   

Young Energy has been designed to help families work together to learn how they can make lifestyle choices that are good for the environment and save the family money.  The program will teach young people how to identify ways to save the family money, and the family will discuss which environmental choices they would be willing to consider together based on the savings associated with each change. 

The role of the youth in the program will be to identify the areas to save money, to coordinate a discussion with the parents and record which items they agree to try, to monitor energy savings progress and with the help of the Young Energy Team publish the family successes on the Young Energy Website.  At the end of this process Young Energy will provide the family a ‘report’ that details how much money they have saved, and how much they are helping to reduce Greenhouse Gases.

We estimate that families can easily save $500 per year or more by participating in this program, and in exchange for the hard work of the children, we feel it is only fair that the children get to keep half of all the money they save the family during this program.  We want the children to know that it makes financial sense (and cents) to do good things for the environment, and they best way for them to learn this is by actually making money doing good things. 

With the help of the Young Energy team, we will consider making some choices in our lives that will protect the environment, lower our costs and improve our lives.  My son/daughter will do the work required to identify which choices are appropriate for our family, and we will discuss which choices are desirable to us, before committing to any changes.  We all understand that if we do not follow through with our commitments, then we will not achieve any savings, nor receive any money.
